A small historical reference
Geography: Linz is the capital of Upper Austria and third-largest city in Austria. In the north of the country, it is on the Danube 30 km (19 mi) south of the Czech border. In 2009, it was a European Capital of Culture.
The city gave its name to the Linzer Torte, the recipe of which is considered to be the oldest known cake recipe in the world. The city is also unofficially referred to as Linz on the Danube, to avoid being confused with the German city of Linz on the Rhine.
The river Danube is the main tourism and transport connection that runs through the city.
