A small historical reference
Minsk - the capital of the Republic of Belarus, the center of the Minsk district and Minsk region, located in the center of the republic on the Svisloch River. Date of establishment and the first written mention - 1067. Earlier names - Men'sk, Menesk, Mensk. In 1496 - 1499 the city received Magdeburg Law.
Minsk - a major scientific and industrial, cultural and transport center of not only the country, but also the entire region of the Western CIS. Religious sites - the Catholic Church of Saints Simon and Helena ( "Red Catholic Church"), 1905-1910; Cathedral of the Virgin Mary, 1700-1710; Cathedral of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, 1610-1620; Catholic Church of St. Thomas Aquinas; Uniate Church of the Holy Spirit.
